Dates and deadlines

A successful admissions process means meeting deadlines. Find out all the important dates for your application.

Your most frequently asked questions

If you've applied to the Second round, you'll receive a second notification with your admissions results.  If you have a place on a waiting list (reserve), it's possible you may still be admitted.  This depends on if accepted students decline their place. If a place opens and it is then offered to you, you'll receive an email from University Admissions and a new Notification of Selection Results.

In most cases, your university will contact you themselves about the place. It can happen that some universities will not contact you about reserve places until after the semester starts.

We are unfortunately unable to answer questions regarding your chances. We thank you for your patience.

If you've been conditionally placed on reserve (waiting list), this means that you're on the waiting list and that there is also something left for you to do with your application if you're eventually admitted. It could be one or both of the following:

  • If you're admitted, you'll be required to pay tuition fees. In this case, if you're eventually offered a place in the course/programme, you'll have to make the first instalment before you can be considered officially admitted. You must be officially admitted before your application for a residence permit can be approved by the Swedish Migration Agency. If you're offered a place, your university will contact you with information on how to pay the first instalment of your tuition fee.
  • If you're admitted, you need to submit requested documentation. In this case, your status as reserve (waiting list) is conditional because University Admissions or your university is waiting for you to submit some type of documentation. You should have received a message here on Universityadmissions.se, or been contacted by admissions personnel. You should submit this documentation as soon as possible so your application is complete. The university will notify you later if a place becomes available that they can offer you.

An explanation for why you've been conditionally placed on a waiting list (reserve) can be found in your account here - see your admissions results under 'Application'.

It's difficult to say if and when an applicant on reserve (waiting list) or with a late application will find out if they've been offered a place:

  • universities offer places to people on reserve as they become available. It's impossible to say if places will open in a course or programme as an accepted applicant needs to decline their place for it to be made available.
  • late applicants may be considered if there are still places available after all reserves have been contacted.

After selection, if the university decides to offer you admission, you'll receive an email along with a new Notification of Selection Results. In most cases, the university will be in touch with you directly.

In some cases, you won't hear from the university until after the semester starts.

If you do not wish to keep your place, you should decline your offer. This will remove you from the university's class and contact list for the course and make the space available to other interested applicants.

If you wish to keep your place, you do not need to reply to your offer. All contact from this point on should be directly between you and your university.

If you applied in the First round

If you applied to the First round, you're not required to reply to your admissions offer here on Universityadmissions.se. However, please note that the university that you've been accepted to may require you to reply to them. Be sure to follow any instructions given to you by your university.

We hope that you'll choose to study in Sweden! However, if you decide not to accept the place you've been offered, please be sure to decline it here on Universityadmissions.se. In that way, you let the university know you won't be attending and free up the place for someone on the waiting list.

Key dates for First and Second round

All citizens of countries not in the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland, who study at a Swedish university and who do not have any other kind of residence permit in Sweden other than a residence permit for studies, will need to pay application and tuition fees.

Formal exchange students and doctoral students are exempted from tuition fees, as well as the application fee. Students who are registered for a course or programme at a Swedish university at the time they submit their application are not required to pay an application fee.

Officially issued means that your documents have been issued by a representative of the Academic Registrar's Office, the Examinations Office, or the equivalent office that issues official documentation of records at your university.

You can't certify your own document copies. Self-certified transcripts, including printouts or screenshots from student self-service websites, are not accepted.

You can find out how to submit officially issued documents here at Universityadmissions.se.

The application status ‘Unqualified’ means that you don’t fulfil the general entry requirements. You haven’t submitted complete documentation by the supporting documentation deadline.

The status is not a final admissions result.

If you believe you meet the general entry requirements, you can submit further documentation as proof. Any documents you submit at this stage won’t be assessed until after the admission results have been published.

If you see the status ‘Reserve´ next to a course or programme, it means that you have been placed on a waiting list.

Next steps for First round applicants

If you've applied for the First round, you do not need to reply to your admissions notification. If you're offered a place in a course or programme from the waiting list, the university most likely will contact you directly. You'll also receive an email and new notification of selection results.

Next steps for Second round applicants

If you have applied for the Second round, you must reply to your admissions notification in order to keep your reserve place (as well as any admitted places). You will receive a second notification with the results of the second selection round. You'll find out then if you've been offered a place in the course/programme from the waiting list.

The university may offer you a place even later. If this happens, you will receive an email from University Admissions and a new Notification of Selection results. The university may even contact you directly about the place available.

What are my chances of being offered a place from the waiting list?

Unfortunately, we do not have any information regarding your chances of being offered a place and are unable to answer questions you may have.
